Case study: mateenbar TM for Electrical Substation applications.
Date: 2009
Application: Electrical
mateenbar TM was specified for a number of electrical substations recently built as part of recent network upgrade contracts.
mateenbar TM was selected for its non-conductive and non-electromagnetic properties. It is used throughout the concrete mounting pads for transformers and filter-banks.
Steel rebar can create an electrical safety hazard, becoming 'live' through induced electrical currents. The induction causes heating within the steel, and the sub-station also loses efficiency due to the power consumption of the rebar.
There are also the problems of accelerated electrolysis, created by both the electrical field and the elevated temperature.
mateenbar TM delivers savings in three ways:
Firstly: an upfront saving is made, due to less concrete coverage requirement.
Secondly: the infrastructure life-span is extended.
Thirdly: because the losses due to electrical induction are eliminated, the transformers and filterbanks run with increased efficiency, deliverying a cost saving every day.
